Love’s Release ~ Five Minute Friday

I’m doing double duty today.  Not only is it day three of the Poetry challenge; it’s also Friday!  Today’s prompt is “Release” in celebration of the release of Kate Motaung’s (the founder of Five Minute Friday) book called “A Place to Land”! I’ll tell you more about this wonderful memoir very soon. So here’s my attempt at once again, joining Poetry and Five Minute writing together.  To read more great posts on “Release” go to http://www.fiveminutefriday.com

“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” 1 Peter 1: 18-19 / Pixabay

R oll away your stone of doubt.

E xit your tomb of fear.

L oosen your hold on crippling guilt.

E scape the chains of the world and

A ccept the hope and freedom of

S weet forgiveness,

E ternally ours through the One, who out of love, paid it all.

Years

I’ve been doing some crazy stuff lately and this ranks right up there, but even though I’m getting a late start,  I am going to once again attempt to write a poem a day in April to celebrate Poetry Month.  I’ll be the first to say that it’s unlikely that I’ll accomplish this goal, however I’m going to give it my best!  And who knows? Crazier things have happened! (believe me!)

40 ~ Busy life, kids grow up, suppers on the run.

50 ~ Empty beds, who turned up the heat, career is almost done.

60 ~ By God’s grace I’m 59 and 60’s just plus one! (Boy, I hope it’s fun!)

Beauty of His Love ~ Five Minute Friday

My five minutes today is actually a five minute edit.  The words of this poem I wrote a while ago kept running through my head today. Pretty sure I needed to be reminded again, so decided to rework it to share here along with other writers addressing the prompt “beauty” over at http://www.fiveminutefriday.com

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)/ Pixabay

The Beauty of His Love

My mirror tells a story
I don’t want to hear.
Of passing time, sagging skin
And other things I fear.

Wrinkles, laugh lines,
A hair on my chin?
How can this be my outside
When I feel so young within?

Age spots, freckles,
A scar by my eye
I’m marked head to toe
By years passing by.

Just at the time
I began to despair
A Still Small Voice said;
“See My masterpiece there!”

Leaning close to the glass,
I looked long and deep,
And the reflection I saw
Caused me to weep.

For at that very moment
My heart began to sing
Because I had forgotten
One very important thing.

I’m marked on the inside.
Saved by His grace!
My blemishes are forgiven.
Jesus died in my place!

Every hair on my head,
The imperfections I see;
Are all part of His plan,
For me being ME!

Now, the face is the same
But the story is new.
God’s helped me to discover
The beauty of His love shining through.

Because ~ 25/31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes

I have the MOST wonderful mom!  The older I get, the more I become like her and that’s a good thing for me!

“Honor your father and MOTHER, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12 (NIV)

Because

Those dreaded words
Our mothers said
When we were young and free.

With rolled eyes
I’d stomp my foot
When they were aimed at me.

That simple phrase
In a tone quite firm
Would end our childhood fun.

I never knew
Just what it meant
Except that we were done.

As I grew
I vowed one thing
That I would never do.

Repeat those words
My mother used
When I had children,too.

It didn’t take long
As a mother myself
For reality to set in.

The kids were wild
I was tired
You won’t believe what happened then.

To put an end
To their sibling rants
My hands went to my hips

I opened my mouth
And my mother’s words
Came easily from my lips.

The children stopped
And looked at me
Their eyes rolled to and fro.

I said it once more
In honor of mom
Because… I said so!”

Grace Said No

“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)

Grace Said No

The crown of thorns

Forced on His head,

Bruises, slashes,

Wounds that bled.

Voices heard

Above the crowd,

Jeers and Jokes

Mocking loud.

Rhythm made by

Each hammer blow.

Perfect heart

Beating slow.

Darkness swallowed

Up the sky

As they waited

For Him to die.

“It is finished”

Said for me

While the devil

Danced with glee.

“I’ve won!” He bragged

“I told you so….”

But on Easter morn

Grace.

 Said.

No.

I’m joining up again with #livefreeThursday at http://www.tsuzanneeller.com The prompts was “no”.  Sometimes a poem just comes out of me even when it is not what I plan to write. Want to see what other women are writing on “no”? Click on over to Suzie’s site.

A Teacher’s Heart

Teaching is a Work of Heart!

Teaching is a Work of Heart!

To all my precious Teacher friends out there…Happy Teacher Appreciation Day!  Never forget what an important job you do and how much I admire you!

A Teacher’s Heart

It started when I was very young,

A seed began to grow.

Crayons, scissors, glitter too,

Went with me where I’d go.

Sunday School, babysitting

Camp counselor and more,

Time with children anywhere

Caused my heart to soar.

It took hard work along the way

And several interviews

With love and support of family and friends

I stepped into my teacher shoes.

Those poor first students who had to teach me

Time and time again

Lessons tried, lessons failed

Lessons that should never have been.

Through it all they didn’t give up

And thankfully neither did I,

When I think back on those precious first years

I truly want to cry.

I’ve put my heart and soul into

My classrooms and each child,

Each day a new adventure

Some good, some bad, some wild.

Thirty-two years of my life

Living out this dream,

The ups, the downs, laughs and tears,

The times I wanted to scream.

The teacher’s day is never through

It’s hard to understand

The patience, the strength, the prayers it takes

To embrace a job so grand.

The seed has grown and blossomed

Its roots have gone quite deep.

In my heart are memories

A treasure I’ll always keep.

Little did I know back then

Long ago when this did start,

That God’s perfect plan all along

Was to give me a teacher’s heart.

Once a teacher, now a teacher

it’s what I’ve always been

Looking back I have no doubt

I’d do it all again.

Poetry Here, There, and Everywhere

I have arrived at my first destination safely and I’m excited to say that even tho I am tired and my mind is not working on all cylinders, I still have a poem for you tonight.  It is written by my sister, Barbie….oops, Barb to her friends. What a gift it was to receive this today. Also, if you look in the comments for yesterday’s post you will find another special poem written by my friend, Robin! Poetry here,  there, and everywhere! Just how I like it!

So I admire my sister for her wisdom, faith and kindness. So here is a little poem to help at least one more day!
ODE TO CINDY

My sister is a writer extraordinaire
She has admirers everywhere

I will miss her poems everyday
But busy she is with that grandbaby on the way!

I encourage her to continue on
And don’t make us wait too long

I love her dearly she is my sister and friend
I am not the poet in the family so this is the end.

My BETTER List

My BETTER List

Songs and music of every kind,

All the seashells I can find,

Chocolate, Coffee, an Easter Peep,

Hallmark movies that make me weep,

Birds and goats and each Grand~Dog,

Standing on a mountaintop above the fog,

The sound of a wave crashing on shore,

My children arriving at my front door,

The flowers and trees around my yard,

Finding someone just the right card,

Comfortable shoes that are stylish too,

Projects that take glitter and glue,

My family, my faith, and my dear friends,

A really good book I hope never ends,

New recipes and eggs straight from the nest,

These are the things that I love best!

My List

Still Waiting!

My List

Folding socks, mopping floors,

Opening broken garage doors,

Putting away groceries, buzzing flies,

Eating right, and EXERCISE,

Liver, tomatoes, stinky cheese,

Skirts that show my wrinkly knees,

Snakes and bats and curly hair,

Closed in spaces with no air,

Getting up early, packing a lunch,

These are all things I dislike a bunch!

A Glimpse of a Miracle

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;" Psalm 139:13-14

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;” Psalm 139:13-14

A Glimpse of a Miracle

I gazed upon his perfect face

His hands, and little toes

I thought I caught a glimpse of her

Around his button nose.

He kicked, he yawned and then he blinked

In awe I took it in.

I’m pretty sure his dad and he

share a handsome chin.

A miracle right before my eyes

Tears of joy ran down my cheek.

For where once only God could see

I was blessed to take a peek.
